1 pass = encode 1 time.
2 passes = encode 2 times. The 2nd time uses the info from the 1st pass.
and so on….
The quality will be increased with the number of passes.

I always set it to Pass2 (medium).I never use the pass2 fast before. You can try it yourself.Depends on the source, you may or may not notice any difference.

preset
Default: medium
Change options to trade off compression efficiency against time. If you specify a preset, the changes it makes will be applied before all other parameters are applied.
Values available: ultrafast, superfast, veryfast, faster, fast, medium, slow, slower, veryslow and placebo.
Recommendation: The slowest you can bear.

Which version of multiavchd you're using?Do you get a "download the stable x264" message in the log when you first start up multiavchd?

Have you check the temp folder?
Just try pass1 fast next time.
