my friend is using Foucs Audio FS-78 ($10k) and Cayin A88T ($3.3k).he bought both 2nd hand (case 1).
i can say the sound is surprising good.do u know someone is using case (2)?can we share the experience?
btw, my friend was using LINN pre (??) + LK140 power amp ($10k+) before.but i will say the sound of Cayin A88T is matching the FS-78 better.
i tried to use 200k combo(cd, pre+power, cables) to push 5K bookshelf speakers.
i can say that i pushed the speaker to the limit no matter on power side also high Frequency, low frequency and mid range. i never hear that speakers in this good sound. however the damping and power too high for that speakers, sound bit too tight!
msot of ching does not explore the limit of the speakers. it is waste!
therefore some ching using over 200k gear to push Dyna C1. but some ching using 20k gear to push C1. it is your choice!

C Hing, don't draw final conclusion too soon.
According to the examples given by two c hings, we cannot say (1) is better than (2) or vice versa.
On the other hand, this is a very good topic which deserves much discussion.
I don't think there'll be a definite result. however, it semms to me that it is easier to find a better combination of (1) than (2) in the market. Here is my thought, correct me if I were wrong:
If you have very good speakers, very easy to push, i.e. regenerate the original sound with a smaller current, then the current and power provided by the amp is small and a cheap amp can do the job.
Secondly, if you have very poor speakers, i.e. cannot regenate the original sound even with a large current, then the high power and large current provided by the expensive amp is just a waste. In the worst senario, this combination can only produce loud noise!
