As far as I know, major labels (Decca, DGG, Philips, EMI, Sony (CBS)) use "smooth-sided" case during 1983-1985/6 productions.

The photo below:top = normal ridged type; bottom = smooth-sided type

Although I'm not a devotee of Perlman's music, I do have some of his CDs during his finest times.

These two CDs are easy-listening type and good sound too!Recommended if you want to try violin music.
