Hey Everyone, I wanted to introduce you to Apex. I created Apex to optimize the JVC + HD Fury Macro experience.

Update: The text below is from my first post about Apex and describes initial functionality plus some potential later features. Some of those features are now implemented! Be sure to check out the 2nd post right below for the latest.

For those not familiar, the JVC RS500/RS600 models have the tech specs to support HDR very well, but JVC provided a truly terrible implementation. Amazing people on AVS have come up with ways to get HDR working on these projectors. One part of this involves using an HDFury product, such as the Vertex 2, to send macro commands via RS232 and cause the JVC to select appropriate HDR (or non-HDR) profile. Apex optimizes this step.

Apex sits between the HDFury device and the JVC projector and intelligently works with the JVC, and its nuances, to ensure profile switching is optimized. These profile changes now take only as long as needed. This removes the one size fits all “20 second” delay that occurs with the straight HDFury to JVC approach.

Additionally, there is no longer a need to connect an RS232 cable to your JVC. While Apex receives data from an HDFury device via RS232, Apex communicates with your JVC using IP.

With Apex, along with the HDFury device and all the amazing work from AVS members, HDR functionality feels almost like JVC built it in correctly. For example:

1) Switching from HDR1200 to HDR4000 content with no resolution change? With Apex, HDR4000 activated almost immediately.

2) Switching from 4k 60fps BT709 SDR to 4k 24fps BT2020 4000 HDR? Almost immediately after JVC shows the 24 fps image, Apex activates the HDR4000 profile

3) You stop an HDR movie and your player switches to non-HDR? Apex activates the non-HDR profile right away.

4) You are watching 1200HDR content and you select different content that also has 1200HDR? Apex ensures the viewing isn’t interrupted by an unnecessary profile switch.

Apex is python code that can pretty much run anywhere. I’ve been developing it and running it on a Mac with a USB dongle but I plan to put it on a Raspberry Pi. This will allow me to just leave it with my AV equipment and forget about it. As far as the project’s state, it’s working great for me but I’d like a couple people to try it out and provide feedback before I release it. Also, I’d like to find whether anyone is interested in this niche solution besides me ;)

If you are interested in Apex and are comfortable running python code, have a device with serial and IP connectivity, have your JVC IP connected and already have a functional HDFury macro setup, let me know.

BTW, there’s certainly potential for more functionality here. For example

1) Support RS232 communication to JVC, not just IP
2) Add a web interface for status and minimal configuration
3) Add support for virtual profiles. For example, Apex could use a base HDR4000 but then automatically adjust the contrast a couple clicks based on the HDR data
4) Support an IR command that causes Apex to resend the current config (incase someone manually changed it)

有時AV Receiver 兩個output當中其中一個support Dolby Vision都會令Player輸出support Dolby Vision，
呢個時候如果Projector會自己跳去HDR mode咁基本上可以唔駛加HDFury，
唯一要留意嘅係Player輸出嘅Dolby Vision係會跟你部電視嘅規格輸出，
加HDFury就可以多少少customize畀projector用。

您好，本人投影機同前面2位師兄一樣BenQ W5700投影機，Shield TV Pro 2019盒子，Samsung Q950T Soundbar。

接法︰Shield TV Pro 2019 > Vertex 2 > (1)出影比BenQ W5700 +(2)出聲比Samsung Q950T soundbar

Vortex 2既Setting係咪應設置如下圖(附圖為好心koo9726提供)︰

問題1︰以上Setting係咪正確?
問題2︰特別要留意係咪要係DV頁面慨Primaries由DCI-P3替換BT2020(避免偏紅)?
問題3︰如果由DCI-P3替換BT2020有機會令顏色偏淡，會影響埋其他HDR10，SDR既片嗎?
問題4︰請教下仲有無其他設定可以做更好?

1. 連接不穩定（如片）：

兩個特徵：會有白線雜訊閃動，會經常中斷變黑數秒

2. 播放Dolby Vision片時顏色不正常（人臉變紫）

連接方式
Shield pro > Vertex2 > (出影) BenQ W5700 + (出聲)Samsung Q950T soundbar

全部用Audioquest forest 48 HDMI線, 除了接投影機用Fibbr Ultra pro HDMI線
