Do current AV receivers need more channels?

In the new era of Atmos, DTS-X and Auro all require multiple speakers setup to include at least two layers of speakers
Those 7 channels setup can only afford 2 overhead speakers
We know 4 overhead speakers is better
So 5.1.4 should be basic requirement
To extract the benefit of modern sound technologies, a 7.1.4 is a must for mid level
Nevertheless, only high end models +/- external amp offer such capabilities
I think most consumer just need more channels rather than more power
Or may be a compromised design with less power output (~80%) from rear and upper channels
I am still waiting for a decent model with 11 channels output without breaking the bank
