sorry that i have not tried the old dacmagic, so i can't really compare their differene in sound quality/characteristics.

do you own a dacmagic? if so, maybe we can do a direct AB comparison?

i don't, i just want to use it to set your standard because when ppl say "good sound" its very subjective if u heard old DacMagic and think its 'totally rubbish' and DM+ is a complete different monster, it may worth a try, but if u love old DM...than we are in very different taste...

got your point!
frankly, it is true that I don't feel a '10 level' jump of improvement after changed to DM+. But I am not sure if that was the bad of DM+ or just my setup is too low-end to show the difference.  Also, my 'wooden ear' is another factor.  And the 'added detail' i heard by using the DM+, i really can't tell if that was only due to physcological reason only.

If u dun mind my lousy setup, would you like to come to my place to 試聽& 指教下? coz i'm really new in both AV & 2ch and it would be great to learn more from more experienced c hings like u

    Lester hing 太謙啦，我都希望可以響c hing 樹學下嘢，知多D。
其實買DM+時個sales好好service , （其實=毒我）開埋audiolab 8200cd & micromega cd30 (just cd player) 比我聽，話等我知道分別...and the fact is the resolution quality is micromega cd30 > 8200cd > DM +, 而分別係好明顯。但好彩我荷包有一定程度抗毒能力(冇$$$$..），所以選左DM+

本人愚見:

linear phase - 大鑊野, 好多把聲  e.g 交響樂
minimum phase - 流行歌
steep - 獨唱, 一把聲, 一把結他 e.g. 2V1G

樂器用toslink input, 人聲用coaxial input.
