thanks! yes i really like this MF amp, but to be honest I do not have much experience in listening to other 2ch amp to compare.

I did own an audio-space mini-galaxy tube integrated amp but it is 10 street behind this MF amp...

this MF's sound is very warmth, musical, and has very rich  'sense of air'.

I owe to this amp to release its full performance because i only have lousy setup.  And the speakers are only 10yrs old entry level speakers. but can already tell how nice this MF amp is.

I have brought the DacMagic Plus. Honestly speaking, I am quite disappointed with its performance. I am not sutre whether I do it the right way or not:-

1. I try to compare how the DacMagic Plus sound with my CA 640B CD player (brought 5-6 years ago). I connect the output of CA 640B player (using optical output) into the new toy. I found the sound is basically the same when I play directly from the CA player or I connect the output to the DMPlus. In other words, the new toy does sound better to my old CD player.

2. Second, I play music using my PC and connect with DM Plus. I then compare the sound using my Marantz Pearl Lite (which as an external DAC function). Obviously, the sound from Marantz DAC is much more musical, the vocal is warmer and the soundstage is better.

I just use the mew toy for a couple of hours and basically I just put it aside now because it does not sound any better then my existing equipment.

I am wondering whether this is because I don't know how to set the correct settings or the DM Plus is just like a piece of crap.

Actually I quite agree with u that DM+ doesn't improve the sound quality by a big margin when comparing even to my Philips bdp9500 rac out or to my low-end HA INFO USB DAC ($399 only).... But it seems like it gives a bit more details and wider sound stage. I must say I can't tell for sure how much better coz I only have wooden ears...


In your case:
Have u tried using coaxial from cd player instead of optical?

For pc, may I know if the DM+ has been set to USB audio 2.0 mode? If it's in usb audio 1.0 mode it'll only take in 16/44.1....
And the CA driver installed?
Also, the factory default of DM+ is set to pre-amp mode (i.e the volume button is working) vs. you can set the DM+ to 'dac only' mode (& the volume button will be disabled). There is notable difference of sound quality between these 2 modes...


Just wanna c if these may help in your case.....Hope they can help

==> No I just try optical because I do not want to spend another thousand dollars to buy a coaxial cord just for testing. In my heart, I feel this does pay off much in this DM+ thing.

==> This is a good question. I download the CA driver, but cannot install!!. I cannot set to audio 2 mode. (I am using WP7)

==> I try both methods, but not great effects. Still prefer my Marantz DAC/CD player.
