Actually I am an owner of 3900
If I have a good video engine of TV or Projector (like X model of Sony), I may go for 3900 except audio consieration. If TV or Projector is normal or old version, I will go for Z7. Now I am holding yamaha amp.

Agree! If you have a very good display (such as latest Sony LCD or Pioneer Plasma) or projector, I think can let the display to do the fine tune or adjustment and 3900 should be fine. For Audio, if you are going to use an external power amp, then I also support 3900. Even though I think Z7 still have competitive advantage on the surround and details compare to 3900 but I think given there is $7000 (suggest retail) price difference Z7 and 3900, I will still go for 3900.
How about the CD music performance of V3900 & Z7 ??

i have a Panasonic 50PY800 plasma TV and Sony VPL-HW10 projector ... are they good enough to cover up the weakness of 3900?

I am using Pioneer 500A and Panasonic BD30 as source. Currently I am only using default value from both 500A and BD30, and I am very satisfy with the video quality. May be I am a new hand and not too demanding on video quality. I think there won't be very big difference in video quality even if using Z7 as my display only 50". However, if using projector and project to a big screen, I think Z7 can provide more control on video output which may help improve the video quality....

Z7 is a big difference on video in term of Detail Enhancement, Edge Enhancement & Contrast. You better to see/compare what is going on. Detail and Contrast can be found out on any size on TV, Projector.
