Many Carpenters CDs were mastered by Bernie Grundman (absolute top mastering engineer in the US) who was the head of mastering of A&M (Carpenters' label) in the 1970s. Grundman is familiar with A&M's sound and Carpenters' sound. If I were you, I will stick to Grundman's work rather than XRCD (unnecessary EQ + compression).
