According to the latest manual, from Firmware 1.6 onward, Mytek can decode DSD files through AES/Coaxial, besides firewire/usb. But I only use firewire and usb, so I am not entirely sure how AES/coaxial works exactly and I am suspicious that Mytek can decode ISO directly.

I have to say that I like the sound of Mytek very much so I spend a lot of time to explore it (but not trying to buy many expensive accessories for it) . Accoding to the designer of Mytek (Michal), the DAC is designed for using USB/FW with its drivers. In my little experience with different inputs (coaxial/AES soundcard/DDC), I still find USB/FW interface "best" [some chings who prefer Hi-Fi/colorful sound might not agree].

I mainly use Winodws 7 with CPlay/JPlay/Audiogate for listening to music files. I prefer FW rather than USB as the sound is more "real" [but some say less polished or dry]. Using a 64GB flash disk is the cheapest way to get a reasonably good result. The other more expensive and cumbersome way is through streaming [NAS+Router+Switch].

To me, Mytek is neutral, fast, accurate and smooth. You can go to Tsang Fok to compare it with Benchmark and Larry and you can easily notice that Mytek stands out among the three DAC even though they are at similar price range and are all professional DAC. And its sound is entirely the "opposite" to Northstar DAC even though I have no idea about where you can make direct comparison.

Mytek is also sensible to the cables one. I have tried different usb cables, firewire ables, coaxial cables, powercords, XLR cables, RCA cables. All achieve different sound---this could also be due to the fact that I am using professional speakers [TAD, Genelec] which is very revealing. And as Mytek is accurate, its sound will become unbearable when you listening to low quality recordings.

One more word about its preamp part. It is simply great. I was using Nuforce P9 preamp for more than 2 years before getting Mytek. I find Mytek's preamp give out more coherent, smooth and transparent sound than Nuforce P9 even though the dynamics keep a bit compromised and the bass is not as tight and deep. And the sound is also very different when you compare analog and bypass volume control in Mytek. In my old/present setup, the analog output [using its preamp] achieves the best result, which depends on personal taste too.
