Running my current HTPC with 32bit Vista and thinking of upgrading to 64bit W7.  Mainly use for photo album, TV recording, Music and Movie playing.  Please share your HTPC experience.

64bit Windows 7 is much better than Vista for HTPC, I have been using it over 1 year and it is solid and stable.

sorry to say that i was a 32bit vista licence user.... and now im using "green" 64bit win7.... and im soooooo happy that im using it with 2 x 4gb ddr3

32bit VS 64bit
max of 3.5gb ram  VS 48gb

Vista VS win 7....
use more ram VS use less ram....
more apps to load VS less apps to load....

I use MPC-HC + LAV filters, easier to setup and less unwanted features...

MPHC- with LAV filter , picture qty is not so good.-  I don't suggest . Just easily to  setup but cannot win normal BD player like oppo-93
Potplayer + MadVR+ FFDshow + Avisnyth + SVP , picture qty is much better than MPHC, picture qty can win oppo-93 as I compare. But this setup is difficult for newhand.

For AV use , I suggest still using 32bit better than 64bit. because some software still not yet have good supporting in 64bit win 7 .

I spot no quality difference between LAV / FFDshow or other DXVA based hardware decoder....and MPC-HC can use MadVR as well.

Are you using ffdshow in s/w mode together with SVP? That will be very CPU demanding... On my PC (Core 2 Quad Q9400 oc 3.6GHz), even with hardware DXVA decode, I do not have enough CPU power for SVP with highest quality profile...With medium quality script, there are serious artifacts on borders of quick moving objects...
