If you only want to set the correct black level (the "Brightness" setting) and the white level (the "Contrast" setting), just get a calibration disc to do the job.  "DVE HD Basics" blu-ray disc is one of the good ones (it also comes with a blue filter for you to set the Color & Tint settings properly).  The free AVSHD 709 is also good:

(but you need to burn the disc by yourself, and you need to get the blue filter by yourself from somewhere else).

Using either one of them, you can get the Contrast, Brightness, Backlight, Color, Tint, and Sharpness set properly for watching blu-ray/DVD.  Only if you want to go further to calibrate the color temperature, gamma curve and color gamut should you get the colorimeter such as Spyder3TV.
