To be honest here, I'm really crossing my fingers that the Pacific Rim sequel gets made.
Most of us background actors had a whole lotta fun being able to participate in this project and it shows. Even the principle cast were having the time of their lives during production. When I visited Guillermo on set last April, I witnessed something peculiar. Rinko Kikuchi was sitting next to Guillermo del Toro, having a conversation and she was just instantly in tears. No cameras around, everyone was on a break. I didn't eavesdrop or anything and honestly, I couldn't hear a thing. But my instincts tell me after Guillermo gave her a fatherly hug that even she was going to miss working with Guillermo. As I testify within the interwebs, I must say that it was truly an honor to join the set of Pacific Rim. Even if I was only seen in the film for a few seconds munching on refried beans and salisbury steak (which sadly went cold for hours, take after take. The beans were yummy!). I, as well as many other background actors, are more than willing to return if the sequel ever surfaces.
And Guillermo, when do we get our home-cooked meal? lol!
My appearances in the film may be short but those 15 days working on the set of this film was absolutely some of the happiest days of my life. It's also because of this film, I was able to meet Guillermo. In my perspective, I believe he is one with an extremely high EQ and also very friendly and humble. He is absolutely someone who is worthy of such respect. From November 16th, 2011 to sometime in the middle of March 2012, I have honestly never seen the director get angry on set. Even if it had happened, the temper was incredibly brief. He would go back to normal within a short few minutes. He also likes to poke fun of people. I remember one time, he figured I would be the one who often mentions the film of Alain Delon on set. It was just April of last year when I stopped by to visit the director. I witnessed him shooting a scene that involved a boat inside the studio. As I gazed upon the monitor to see how this master is going to shoot footage of a boat indoors, he'd suddenly said to me "You're pulling an Alain Delon face". As I heard the comment, I realized he was speaking to me. I squirted water out of my mouth, coughed for a bit and said "Yeah...if only I had his dashing good looks." We laughed for a bit and happily discussed about our love for cinema.
Just a few days ago, I went with a few fellow background actors whom I've met on the set and finally watched "Pacific Rim". And I must admit I'm touched to find that it's been receiving such positive feedback all over the world. (If you guys wanna spot in the film, I'm one of the guys who are angrily stares at Charlie Hunnam. I briefly show up after Idris Elba tells Charlie not to touch him.)
I would formally like to bring a message to the folks in Hong Kong (of course, this includes the netizens of post76) to please support Pacific Rim by watching it in theatres.
雖然我戲份少，但在15天拍攝過程對我來說是最快樂的。亦因這套片的原故才能認識到Guillermo。我認為他是個EQ非常高的人，同時也很友善和謙卑。絕對是一位值得尊敬的人。我從十一月十六日二零一一年拍到大約三月2012年。這段期間我是從未見過導演發脾氣。就算有，這股脾氣只會短暫。數分鍾後便回服正常。他還喜歡拿人開玩笑(亦即是粵語中的“窒人”)。記得有一天，他得知我經常在片場提起亞倫狄龍。當時我在去年四月探望導演，見到他拍片頭的船戲。船是在片場室內拍的。我便眼定定呆望部monitor看看這位大師如何在室內拍船戲。他忽然間跟我說"You're pulling an Alain Delon face" (你在耍個亞倫狄龍面部表情)。聽到後，我才知導演在跟我說話。我竟噴了水，咳了一回便這樣回答他 "Yeah...if only I had his dashing good looks." (是嗎。。。我有他那麼玉樹林風就好了。) 我們笑了剛才的對話，還痛痛快快的談起我們看電影的樂趣。
