Particularly in your case mentioned, it won't work as iphone is only acting a remote to control the music in NAS. Or in another case you can play the music from your iphone via Airplay, but that is useless and all files are in NAS rather than iphone/ipad.

Mmm... without the help of DAC, I doubt Squeezebox decodes any better than my ONKYO 709 does.

But without the TV on, it is difficult to browse the songs and albums using the ONKYO display, and the ONKYO iPhone apps sometimes does not show the album art and didn't pick up where the current playing songs correctly once the iPhone is in sleep mode.

mmm.. another excuse to get a new gadget.

right right, actually my main question is how good is the DAC in Squeezebox touch if connect it to amp directly, if it is close/better then MD10 i will buy it right away.

I believe it is 2 questions.

SqueezeBox Touch is a high resolution audio player with DAC
MD10 is a DAC

Can you feed high resolution audio to MD10 without PC, even you have NAS ? Sorry No.
So you need to buy both and feed undecoded signal to MD10
I believe quality of MD10 is better than SqueezeBox Touch

From one time spending, I agree.

After using this "Toy" one month, I have some comments:
1. From user experience:
It provides graphical UI, better than just a menu
2. Upgrade capacity:
It works standalone. I can upgrade DAC later.
3. Home entertainment:
I can buy one more and use same server to play anywhere, such as bedroom...
