pchan3933 ching, I am a bit curious why you said Audio Pro Image 12 is lacking bass. A couple of months ago, I tried the newer version of this "satellite" speakers at Tak Fat basement (as I was planning to buy one pair for 7.1). The sales connected them to a stereo int amp, and the sound is out of my expectation. It does not sound like satellite speakers. The bass is very OK... well to me.
So, my suggestion to you would be:
1) If any of your friend have a better amp or CDP, try connect to your Image 12 and see whether still lack the bass
2) Go to some shops to try again Image 12 connecting with some better int amp to see what the sound is like
Just a cautious advice to find out the real root cause of lacking bass. Or if you have played to the limit to the speakers. Just my two cents.
You may be right. However, as you know, when you have the speakers tested in those shops, they may connect it with good cd player and also via quality stereo amp, thus there is certainly different result.
FYI, while I bought this pair Audio Pro together with Yamaha Amp, I haven't got it tested nor to get the box open. I just found the size is right so I bought it. I admitted that I was so incautious. Luckily they were found out to be brand new while I open the box at home.
Anyway, I would plan to go to shops to test some different speakers with the same Yamaha Amp, if they all make no significant difference on quality, then the root cause maybe the Amp of which maybe because it's own grading issue, can only handle such output that not meeting my expectation. Nevertheless, thanks for your remind.
I just hope we all spend the money wisely. My experience is, I have a pair of JMLab, with an old Onkyo av amp. The sound was thin, sound stage was not wide and the bass was not up to my expectation. Since I love listening to music than watching movie, so I bought an int amp then a CDP. With the same speakers, the sound are vastly different.
Of course a better pair of speakers can give more sound stage and details. But you will also need an equal rank of amp and CDP to run. I have tried the JMLab Electra 1008Be, very good and expensive. But I also know I may not be able to reproduce the same quality with my current int amp and CDP, cuz they are not the same rank. This is reality, though.
With the $$ you budget for new speakers, you can try some int amp - Marantz would be a good choice. There should be some shops to listen Marantz and Image 12 (or AudioPro) together.
Thanks for sharing the experience. 影音分家. int. amp/cdp can definitely achieve a better music output than av amp/bdp.
It will be interesting to find out the results thru the following 2 channels:
1) using same av amp to test other speakers to compare with Audio Pro
2) by adding int. amp to further test Audio Pro and other speakers too
