故事簡介：
大都市——未來世界的城市，富人們住在摩天大樓內，而工人們只能在地底下工作與生活。工業主Joh Fredersen仔細地檢查城市的每個角落，可是他兒子Freder反對父親的獨裁統治，特別當他愛上了一位被壓迫者Maria後，企圖幫助工人們擺脫工業主的剝削和壓迫。Freder意識到事情的危害，請發明家羅特萬造了一個與Maria長得非常相似的機器人，以此來威脅工人們，這就是不聽話人的下場，不過他的把戲不久被戳穿。
