I havn't heard JBL mates with onkyo 3007 and Pioneer 82.
JBL(entry and medium grade) is rather easy to drive, both should be OK.
Onkyo may be regarded as musical than Pioneer while it is analytical ...

Thanks and quite agree. I just start from my old stereo to, lets say, surround 5.1 and want to keep my vintage JBL 44xx
I want to select between P-72/82 (my impression sonically comparatively speaking more definitive but cool/thin) and O-906/3007 (musical but perhaps a bit fat/warm) Their prices (hong) are quite comparable at this moment so a headache what to choose.
Is it JBL 4425 or higher models? They are very good fit for av.
I'm using Onkyo 906. You may say it is a bit warm but it is not fat.
I prefer punchy in av so I pick onkyo in a price range ...

One pair 4425, one pair 4411 and one pair Harbeth Compact but suppose I wont use both JBL for AV (no sufficient space) Where did you buy your 906 and how much ? Thanks
I think 906 2nd hand price is below 10K which is very attractive given it was a top class av amp before.
Certainly there is risk for buying 2nd hand.
906 is good for movies, concert and listening no ...

Thanks for all your kind info.
Can I perhaps describe that Onkyo is characterized as more towards 'tube' sound while Pioneer 'transistor' sound ?
very hot at the right rear corner which is the video upscale circuit

That's why I don't consider buying Onkyo amp because electronic components constantly under high operating temp, I beleive, which hurt in the long run(but you may as well change gear before that). But the new genration seems to be less hot. I don't know why the video upscale mdule has to be that hot. For class A amp it is hot because of its design. like Musical Fidelity A1 I once owned many years before. It sounded great but I eventually ended up traded it for separates(pre & power).
