Put simply, HD Digital Film Direct means “Master Quality”: what you see and hear on your flat-screen is exactly as the film-makers intended. Absolutely true to the original.
We’ve applied this standard as a label (see the logo on the right) to those of our products that accurately handle 24fps (frames per second) movie content; this will help you make the right product choice for the true HD movie experience.
Films are typically shot, developed and encoded for cinema reproduction at 24fps.
Regular PAL broadcasting and DVD have always played these images back at 25 fps (50Hz).
This has the effect of speeding up images and raising the pitch of sounds and voices.
But, the new high definition discs, like Blu-ray Disc, offer you access to a digitised ”true to the original” copy of the theatrical movie content.
We offer a product range that is perfectly matched for bringing the real cinema experience into your home: amplifiers, Blu-ray Disc players, home cinema systems and flat-screen TVs with our trademark screening of 24fps source input at 72Hz (3 images displayed per original frame). - Video Signal D/A Converter 297MHz / 12-bit (High Definition)
216MHz / 12-bit (Standard Definition) - Dimensions (W x H x D) 420 x 80 x 356 mm
- Weight 6,5 kg
- Power Consumption (in use/standby) (+) 36 W / 0,5 W
Caring for the environment is important. It's why we are a Sustainable Energy Partner of the European Commission.
What this means is that we've committed to reduce power consumption in standby modes. The less energy we consume, the better for the environment.

- DivX (+) Home Theater
DivX is an innovative MPEG-4 digital video technology - often referred to as the MP3 of video.
It is essentially a compressed file format for video and features one of the most efficient video data compression algorithms in comparison to other compressed digital video formats.
Find out more about DivX - MP3 (+) Yes
All Pioneer players and DVD recorders are capable of reading MP3 files recorded onto CD-R/RW and CD-ROM discs. - MPEG-2 AAC (+) Yes
MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) is the name of a family of standards used to encode video and audio signals in a digital compressed format.
MPEG-2 AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) is able to handle more channels than MP2 or MP3 (48 full audio channels and 16 low frequency enhancements compared to 5 full audio channels and 1 low frequency enhancements for MP2 or MP3). - WMA (+) Yes
This product can play back WMA files recorded on CD-R/RW discs. WMA is a music compression format developed by the Microsoft Corporation. It uses the latest encoding technologies to compress an original audio track, minimising file sizes while maintaining good audio quality. - Home Media Gallery (+) Yes
In our products' user interface environments "Home Media Gallery" refers to the function that allows you to access and enjoy "home media". By “home media” we mean content other than that accessible or delivered through traditional media such as audio CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, TV and radio.
Which "home media" content types and formats can be processed, how the content
gets processed and from which media the content can be accessed, varies per product.
Depending on the product you’ll be able to access audio, photo and video files through a disc, USB memory, USB connectable player such as an iPod or iPhone, the Internet or a networked PC /server. Listening to Internet radio is also among the possibilities. Enhancing the audio and video quality, or combining audio and photo playback are examples of processing options. Products with video output typically feature content selection via Graphical User Interface (GUI). - 10-Key Direct Search & Play (+) Yes
This feature allows you to easily access each track, title or chapter at the touch of a button, using the numeric keys of the remote control.
Audio Features - 192 kHz/24-bit D/A Converter Yes (Wolfson WM8740 x 4)
- Dolby Digital (+)Yes
The current surround sound quality decoding standard, Dolby Digital means movie theatre sound performance for a home cinema. The listener will be wrapped in surround sound by 5.1-channel audio sound compression technology.
Depending on the speakers, the front left and right, centre, rear left and right speakers can span frequencies from 20 Hz - 20 kHz and there is a dedicated subwoofer channel for additional low frequency sound effects. Extra features mean not only stunning soundtracks but also additional language tracks on one disc. - Dolby Digital Plus (+) Yes
Dolby Digital Plus is a digital audio compression scheme developed specifically for Blu-ray Disc.
It is a development of the earlier Dolby Digital system. Compared to Dolby Digital, it supports a greater range of bitrates at higher quality and up to thirteen full range audio channels compared with Dolby Digital's original five. - Dolby TrueHD (+) Yes
Dolby TrueHD is an advanced lossless multi-channel audio codec from Dolby Laboratories.
DTS-HD Master Audio is also a lossless audio codec created by Digital Theater System (DTS).
Both codecs are intended primarily for high-definition home-entertainment equipment, such as Blu-ray Disc.
Put simply, the result is that you can now enjoy high resolution images accompanied by lush studio-quality HD sound. - DTS Yes
- DTS CD Capability Yes
- DTS Digital Surround (+) Yes
DTS Digital Surround is the high-quality surround sound format for providing 5.1 channels of discrete digital audio. - DTS-HD Master Audio (+) Yes (bitstream output only)
Dolby TrueHD is an advanced lossless multi-channel audio codec from Dolby Laboratories.
DTS-HD Master Audio is also a lossless audio codec created by Digital Theater System (DTS).

Put simply, the result is that you can now enjoy high resolution images accompanied by lush studio-quality HD sound. - DTS-HD High Resolution Audio (+) Yes
DTS-HD Master Audio, is an extension to the original DTS audio format. It delivers up to 7.1 channels of sound at 24-bit depth resolution.
DTS-HD High Resolution Audio is selected as an optional surround sound format for Blu-ray Disc with constant bit rates up to respectively 6.0 Mbit/s and 3.0 Mbit/s. It is supposed to be an alternative for DTS-HD Master Audio where disc space may not allow it. - Digital Audio Output Dolby Digital, DTS, Linear PCM, MPEG-2 AAC
- PQLS with HDMI (+) Yes
The PQLS (Precision Quartz Lock System) is a transfer control technology using the KURO LINK function.
The player’s output signals are controlled by the AV receiver to achieve high quality sound playback from a CD using the quartz oscillator of the AV receiver. This eliminates the influence of the jitter generated upon transfer which can adversely affect the sound quality. - Dynamic Range Control Yes
Video Features - PAL/NTSC Dual System Yes
- PureCinema Progressive Scan Yes
- Video Adjust (+) Yes
From the Video Adjust screen you can choose various settings that affect how the picture is presented.
You can adjust the following picture quality settings:

Mosquito and Block Noise
Component Frame Digital NoiseComponent Frame Digital Noise effectively removes ‘White Gaussian Noise’ by comparing film frames, distinguishing differences and removing the noise.
Gaussian Noise is white noise with a constant spectral (or ghostly appearance).
Block NoiseThis feature reduces the block noise. Block Noise is a block-shaped distortion generated upon MPEG compression. - Pixel Scaler Yes
- Deep Colour (+) 36-Bit
Deep Colour ensures that all colour transitions and gradients are reproduced with the highest level of precision.
