first of all , i m glad that i m brave enough to do this experiment ..... , i did search a lot u.s. user using this way to play with their old krell or lexicon av amp and they said its far better than buying new japanese av amp, i m curious enough to try this and giving this report out . its all my own feelling ,don’t beat my head if wrong . all the test base on the same equiment.
difference:
sound quality : if krell 10/10 ,yamaha 5/10 base on same power amp .
krell sounds a lot warmer than yamaha , especially the highs still there but its like darker but still outstanding , sometimes having dark high notes will lose detail .but krell not losing any highs or detail and not "bill " nomatter u turn higher and higher volume . and the bass i would decribe as flowing upper , i guess the krell woofer output can produce more electric db so it sounds faster but a little fatter as well ,like u are using a telescope looking far side. yamaha 's bass can be a little annoying after few hours of listening but krell won’t . yamaha ‘s bass not bad, tight and hard ,but not speedy as krell, the center sound from krell was as thick as yamaha "eq tuned" but a lot more natual and clear . if u ab comapre it , yamaha will be a little "mum" but won't be obvious if u just listen to it .
dynamic : if krell 10 /10(basic setup,not touch EQ) ,yamaha 7.5/10(eq tuned)
the dynamic of both were crazy.......krell will be a little more crazy ,but if yamaha eq was fully tune .i will decribe as crazy as denon style but detail. one thing to mention , again the sound of krell never "bill" even at a high volume , its like 陰力 and soft ,Yamaha was 死力 and 瘋狂的. its like someone beat you who know "kung fu " hurt you as 內傷or only give you a punch that not know kung fu as 外傷.not sure if u guys can understand my word....
detail : krell 10 /10 ,yamaha 7.5/10
i m using denon 3800 bluray player as decode. this is the most part that i concerned before pay .not sure if this way work ??? bistream will be better as what people said now a day ??? i can tell you now ,the bluray player decode itself can have more and more detail ,many very tiny little things come out that I ‘ve never heard before .krell did a great job like a microscope focus on the signal that’s 3800 send . "but" some of the detail if they both have , yamaha will be more obvious , i guess its all result by the EQ .
3d mode/ feeling : krell 2/10 ,yamaha 10/10
this is the part that where krell will totally lose .......because no presense speaker , it can't have the 3d feeling as yamaha , yamaha always the best on sound wall .
surround : krell 10/10,yamaha 10 /10
they all set as 80 hz , krell space feel was simple but surround very well with wide sound wall ,the front 3 speaker dynamic range was wide and link to the back channel with no "cut layer" ,and the dynamic of the surround speaker was a lot wider and louder than yamaha ,I m not sure why but it really did . i never heard my surround speaker with Yamaha can have so much bass from it and sound continues with good dynamic range . krell have nothing special about the space feel or sound wall , but it still produce well sound wall cover the king sit . yamaha was good in this part too, it also cover the king sit well and makes you feel like u are inside and u can feel the surround was covering you . this part was hard to decribe .
concert or cd :krell cd 10/10 concert 8/10 ,yamaha cd 5/10 concert 10 /10
yamaha was musical compare to other japnese av amp .....but cd part will totally lose to krell , the sound quality was the main difference and musical feeling as well .my speaker was not that good for music , but it still makes it sing ok for cd now  the concert part, if u set the "hall in armstard" mode for yamaha was amazing .its like u are inside the show . the quality was not good as krell but the surround sound wall and 3d was well enough to compare to it .
finally , i think yamaha 3800 was a well made japanese av amp cost around 1xxxx, i m only using half part of it , but its still worth money = perfomance .especially the eq really double and magic his perfomance .otherthan the EQ ,honestly, yamaha will win only the sound wall ,the dynamic and detail will lose a lot more if not use EQ . The kell was too expensive when its new ,compare to yamaha new generation hd amp , its not a fair battle anyway .5 years old product compare to new product . the only thing i wanna let everyone know was bitstream was not the only way to do so , this is a good way for someone who have a old amp (u like the sound so much) and don't need to spend another $ to change the new hd amp , just buy a new player decode itself and use hdmi direct to tv or projector , especially the one who owned a u.s. or european amp . don't waste your “amp” and your” money” , the sound quality of the u.s. av amp will always be there for you . |
