Why do we need to making up or polish the original signal?  Do you refer to ADDING information such as up-sampling?  

If the conversion can 99.99% "preserve", that's great!  If the solution will ADD 1% MSG in the process, that will become a personal preference, it can be good, but it can be bad as well.  So not adding anything is not a bad objective to me.

Wow, setup a NAS and DAC at shop to try out DDC, that would be a good idea but I doubt its feasibility, Show rooms tends to pretty straight in plugging in third party products from customer, especially something they are not familiar with.  Aggressive shops might be more open at less busy hours.

I might try to do that when I basically have make up my mind and want to try out before I pay for the product, I am hesitated to do this at initial product search phase.

haha.... because the sound (signal) original from NAS is simply not good.  In my school computer lesson, there is a saying, "Garbage in, Garbage out" .  If the source is not good, then the rest of effort is futile.

I agree, that's almost impossible in HK. haha
but I know Avantgarde has good service on this, they can ab testing (demo) to you to show the power of ifi products, so why not go and find them first?

The only source is the FILE, not the NAS.  NAS is a storage, it might introduce noise during the transmission, so we need to do something about it.  

I have to say your analogue of "Garbage in, Garbage out"  is completely wrong, that was refer to data quality primarily - no matter how good the software are programmed, if you feed it with garbage data, it will generate garbage result.  For example, a MP3 file will not product high fidelity sound because some data is lost, so feeding in MP3 to a premium DAC will not generate better result, that is Garbage in, Garbage out.  When there are noise introduced in the course of transmission, it is NOT related to garbage in - garbage out.  Having taught IT courses for 9 years in a local university, I suggest you go back to learn from your teacher again before you making stupid quotation again.

For the record, I am proficient with computer, I just want to stay with "appliance" products for my audio hobby.  You are a firm believer in the solution you opt for, but you are hardly fair to other options, maybe you should sit down to listen first, either to other people opinion, or try out a decent NAS to Network player system, 方浪 has a few decent setup that you can audition at walk in, please do that because you continue with your DDC will never sound better then MPD claim.  

Sorry for the strong word, I tried to be patient with you, but this is page 3 already and you still don't intend to respect the questions that I posted in my first post.  When I said MPD is not my option at this moment, I mean it, OK?

Great idea, will remember that, and if I picked ifi products as my first choice, I sure will try to do that.

But right now, looks like Schiit is a potential contender at a much lower cost, so the natural priority goes to Schiit, right?
