I think USB - I2S converter make more sense.   i.e. USB input, galvanic isolation from PC, format I2S output with re-clock.

It depends on the USB input circuit.  My DAC does not have USB input.  I have tried different devices to convert USB signal to coaxial.  One is EMU 0404 and the other is Onkyo NDS1000.  Onkyo wins a street on sound quality.  Hence, there should be a difference when you use a high quality converter.

ching, have you compared the the Onkyo to M2Tech's HiFACE2?  And how much is the Onkyo?

一定要， research過好多地方， 差吾多所有人都話加左好聲好多。 不論平與貴DAC。 我部NAD M51加左Audiophilleo即刻upgrade左， 再加埋battery PSU被Audiophilleo再upgrade!

基本上兩部都吾係貴野，部Onkyo NDS1000 係for connecting iphone/ipad 提供coaxial output 俾DAC 用, 不過有 USB input 可駁 PC用.  Onkyo 係日本買, 18000 Yen 千零蚊貨仔, 超扺玩!  M2Tech 未玩過, 不能comment la.

好唔好咗真係好睇部 DAC，而且個 DDC 的質素都有好大分別。

我一定要用，因部DAC 太舊，得 SPDIF ，不過最近想換 Audiolab M-DAC ，想請教下，乜家下D USB DAC ，要去到幾皮野既機，份 USB 輸入先會好過 SPDIF ?
有無用緊 Audiolab M-DAC 既師兄比較過呢？

如果你諗住玩 DSD file，咁就只有 USB 先得。 (please correct me if I'm wrong)
