APE, AIFF , APPLE LOSSLESS, FLAC or WAV is just the file format to store music.
For setup (Using Computer)
Computer -> Sound card / USB or Firewire DAC / USD tranport to DAC -> AMP - > Loud speakers
Computer -> Sound card / USB or Firewire DAC (RCA or XLR , sounds better with XLR) -> Active speakers
Computer -> Sound card / USB or Firewire DAC (RCA or XLR) -> Headphone AMP - > Headphones or earphones
If you use device from Apple ( like MAC, iphone) , better to use AIFF or Apple Loss for music storage.
If you use windows, try Foobar, Cplay , Audiogate for player
I prefer Wav file for music storage, but it can't store detail of the music ( Not like FLAC , Aiff or APE).
Need to build a cue list for the Wav .. ( So time consuming)
soundcard can be onboard SC, it also include DAC, if you buy another SC, it should have better quality than the OB SC.
If you use external DAC, then no need to buy SC.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
