This power cord has been over 10 years old. When compared with my newly made cables/bought cables (like WW Silver Electra), it just sucks: lifeless, blur imaging and lacking dynamics. Actually, I have wanted to modify it a couple of months ago. Now may be it is time for me to take action ..... Open it and see how it was made.....
Was there any thing wrong with Post 76 website? I'd tried to log on but it went very slow and it failed me several times.
I 've begun something:
The silver wires are, according to the old information, OFC silver. When I look closer, they were a bit "yellow" in color. The insulation seems to be teflon. There is a hot wire containing a lot of thin wires while there are two neutral ones. The aggregate awg is not small, I believe.
Figuring out how to mod it: a headache But the very first idea will be to strip off the jackets of the two silver wires, leaving the thin wires that can be braided into another power cable. Just like braiding CAT5 cable. Definitely, a looooot of work.
Here are some of my very initial impressions on this HTSC:
I replace my CAT 5 bi-wired SC with this HT silver SC (with silver wires as jumpers).The cables deliver a bit more crispy highs, sound softer yet they lack dynamics and punchy bass (same as when they were power cable), as compared to the CAT 5. CAT 5 evidently gains the upper hand in terms of dynamics and solid sound reproduction. The HT is being cooked before further evaluation be carried out, to be fair.
About the original HT Magic silver power cable:
After opening it up, I find nothing special about this cord, no shielding (but found in old data that it said there was!), no braiding of wires, just twisting 2 hots and 2 neutrals together (a star-quad design would be better, I think). This could due to cable built technology at that time. Yet, containing a number of small individual teflon insulated wires in each leg wire seems to be amazing to me.
Why it needs 3 techflexes? I don't know. The two plugs are just so so. It cost HK$8,000 in 2001. It isn't worth it from today's point of view, as a diyer.
Well, don't want to spend anymore time as these speaker cables give me 毛躁感. So, remove their skins and get the individual wires which are solid cores, about 24 awg each, Excellent materials for braiding a CAT 5 - like speaker cables. Now, I 've got a lot of silver wires
