For those 金裝系列 released in 1989, I think all pressings are digitally identical (as least the 鄧麗君 ones are -- I used to have many different pressings of the same title and checked them all).
Similar situation for those Made in Japan/West Germany copies. I am quite sure many of the later pressings are digitally the same as the Japan/W Germany first pressings. Any 鄧麗君's Polygram Hong Kong Made in Japan CDs released between 1984-1986 are exactly such cases. I checked Japan, Korea and even Hong Kong pressed copies and they're all the same digitally. I am sure many of those Alan Tam CDs are also the same cases.
Yes, Made in Japan copies are of better quality than Korean/Hong Kong pressings, but I really doubt the sound difference is that night-and-day to justify the crazy difference in price. And I am sure the record companies can press even much better quality CDs than 20 years ago. Not to say West Germany/Korean 銀圈 CD which will 甩銀 over time!
So,Japan/W Germany or not, T113 or not, 銀圈版 or not, have IFPI or not, are all excuses for 炒賣 and show off. WML78 C-Hing, you should feel happy that you own the same music in nearly the same quality as those who paid big money for their Japan/West Germany/銀圈版/T113 CDs.
In Europe/USA, real music lovers identify the different "masterings", and not just the pressings, because Made in Japan CDs can sound like rubbish if the mastering is bad! Given the rise of Computer As Source, this should be the correct way to finding our audio nirvana!
(Disclaimer: I also collect early pressing CDs but only because I am a crazy fan, not because it must sound better or "superior" in general.)
