all PC, MAC can
squeezebox also can, but u need to hack it and it do not support ansync usb mode
squeezebox needs another device power on (e.g. PC / Mac / NAS). However, SB Touch can read music file directly from USB / SD card slot.
All the squeezebox products read and buffer data in their RAM (buffer up to 20 seconds). That's why there is no clocking problem introduced in data transmission.

for the audiolab DAC, I suggest u buy 8200CD instead
at 799 GBP, u got a CD transport, and a trochodial transformer... seems DAC alone will only give u an external power supply, like Cambridge DAC
or MF DAC instead, seems cheaper
