I changed from 05FD to 83.Oppo win 05FD on operations, much faster loading speed, a bit sharper and less noise, much much better CD playback (LX71 has metallic CD sound.Forget it), excellent pre/post sales support.For HDMI playback, they have similar sound.
i will upgrade other equiment seems this is only change style or a little upgrade only . waste money honestly .{:6_146:}

Really don't think so.In 2009, I upgraded from
Hitachi 42" Plasma -> Pioneer 500A
Denon 4308A (7.1 speakers) -> Onkyo 5007 (9.1 speakers)
Pioneer 05FD -> Oppo 83 SE
I do choose Oppo 83 SE is the real upgrade of my whole set of equipment, then followed by 500A and last 5007.

we all use av amp decode normally now a day , the different will be less than before since its adigital now ,in my experience ,i saw many people have good sound with bd30 and still using it .......and i also saw people using 09 but still can't have good sound , i m not saying oppo not good ,but if you let me choose , i rather choose something else to upgrade such as power amp.i just help one of the member here bought a power amp cost 2500 only .the sound improvement was very obvious . money = performance , of course bluray player better, the sound will be better for sure but when we have limit buget ,we have to choose which equiment would help more .

If your friend is using BD30, suggest to change to 05FD immediately.At least 30% improvement on sound and picture.I owned BD30, S550, 05FD and 83SE, and just share my real experience on my cheap setup.
Agreed your statement that some guys is using LX91 with bad sound, as I listened at Ah X with LX91 to LX81 with very bad sound (maybe my taste problem as I don't like thin sound).
If your friend is using BD30, suggest to change to 05FD immediately.At least 30% improvement on...

I use P記 bd30 as my first blu-ray player, now I consider upgrade the player.If i choose Oppo 83, what different with BD30. e.g. picture quality, HD sound, DVD upscale. I dont use the player as CD player. Can you suggest Oppo 83 or Oppo 83SE? what different 83 and 83SE?
