No, blue-ray definitely is NOT all code, and last night I just found out that

for the first time one of my old Mandarin DVDs could not be played on my

BDP-83!! {:6_136:}

I just find the original Mod Firware web site for BDP-83, I am not a programmer but I will try to learn tonight, maybe later we can DIY the Firmware to all code for both DVD & Blu-R ...
