Harman Kardon will make a running change to three of its four existing AVRs to upgrade them to HDMI 1.4a from HDMI 1.3. They also plan offer consumers a software download to upgrade their existing AVRs to 1.4a.

Harman Kardon is jumping on the 3D bandwagon with an upgrade of all future receivers to HDMI 1.4a.
The move will allow owners to access all of the 3D video formats outlined in the HDMI 1.4a spec. According to Geoff Mathews Managing director of Convoy the distributors of Harman Kardon products in Australia the models that will be upgradable are the AVR 2600, AVR 3600, AVR4600, and the AVR 6500, the new flagship AVR 7550HD which has not been launched in Australia yet will be shipped with HDMI 1.4a

Consumers must download the software to a USB memory stick, insert the stick into their AVR's front-panel USB jack, and use the AVR's remote to navigate through onscreen instructions to install the upgrade.
