Is it o.k. to use existing 2 channel stereo setup to build up 5.1 home theatre!! My friend told me that it may not be a good idea because there may have "coherence" problem.
If I use my existing 2 channel setup!! I will keep using my pre + power to drive my front channel speaker.
And then I will buy mid price/ low price av amp to drive center speaker and rear speaker!! (av amp pre out to connect my 2 channel pre + power to drive my front speaker.)
Of course!! I will use same brand front and center speaker!!
Yesterday, I visited some HiVi showroom!! They all told me that it's better to keep my 2 channel setup to drive front channel, instead of using AV amp to drive the front channel!! (Of course!! I need to use same brand center and front speaker!!).
The salesman told me that I can manipluate the "sound" and "speed" at the AV Amp, if I find that there is "coherence" problem. Sounds attractive if I can keep using my front speaker as front channel speakers.
He also told me that what I want is just buying "better" center speaker and mid price AV amp only. (rear speaker - just depend on yr budget!!)
Besides, just find that Revel release a new wireless subwoofer!! Very funny of not using i/c, but still need to have a powercord to connect subwoofer!!
My front speaker is a pair of Audio Physic Caldera, driven by a set of Soulution pre + Power.
My budget is 30-40k. I have the following options!!
1) A set of 5.1 Dali Ikon speaker (HKD24K approx.) + (15k approx) AV amp = <40k (I think I can get some discount!!)
2) AudioPhysic Center speaker (<20k) + Dali on wall rear speaker (4k) + Subwoofer (<7k) + <10k AV amp = <41k (I think I should pay less!!)
I'm sure that Option 2 should be more expensive than Option 1, but I'm really not sure that the result is good or not!? Anyway, I have no need to hang the front speaker at the wall if I choose Option 2!!
