No offence intended, but ordinary Made in EU version is much better than XRCDs for the Carpenters. Most of the recent Carpenters CDs are mastered by Bernie Grundman. He is the head of mastering of A&M throughout the Carpenters' career. If you want original sound, I think the original engineer knows it better -- especially one who is the calibre of Grundman. This compilation is mastered by Bernie Grundman. Made in Japan, sounds great but I don't like the many remixes (XRCD also contains remixes): http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/product/detail/677259
Highly recommend A Song For You album. This 1998 remastered CD (done by Grundman together with Richard Carpenter) features all the original mixes from 1972 (while 精選 all contain remixes). This sounds much better than the super expensive MFSL version. You can find this CD cheaply at CD Warehouse -- no need to buy from Japan: http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/product/detail/569885
Also consider the Carpenters Singles 1969-1981 SACD. The whole SACD is remixed (both stereo and 5.1) but this remix is done much better and natural. The sound is also great. I don't know if new one is still available but you can try the second hand market. If you have no Carpenters' CD............try this first

sunboy's suggestion is great too, but this CD is compressed much more (which is sadly the trend in CD production) compared to the Twenty-Two Hits of the Carpenters.

XRCD2系JVC.victor Mastering+xrcd pressing一套西裝
xrcd絶對網上首發～JVC 横濱xrcd母盘+横濱印片厂曝光
而K2HD系原屬xrcd pressing厂分支既mastering，系日本其實做Avex dance,Pop為主
Memory tech pressing要分三级至高無尚Glass CD丶HQCD （日本本地產多左GlassCD作為master

絶對同意當年赤坂JVC mastering room既一代目老C夫，
因為三盲鼠等一系列爆红后，冇分清鬼佬同日本6音
Bob Lugwig 同Bernie Grundman系handle本國Rock, Pop
都系更地道同入味
不過全世界都知尼两位B大師都用Fairchild 660同670 compress既 XRCD2系JVC.victor Mastering+xrcd pressing一套西裝
而K2HD系原屬xrcd pressing厂分支既mastering ...
