Onkyo Pr-SC5507 relay clicking

本帖最後由 rklpoon 於 2010-5-31 19:18 編輯

Interested to buy this pre-amp and is researching.

Any user encountered the following situation (copy from US AVS forum):-

"Situation: whenever soundformat changes, the 5507 (like 886 and other Onkyo receivers) mutes the outputs (you can hear clicking inside the unit). Same goes, if you ff/rew/skip/pause a movie, or change inputs or FULLY mute the unit. In all of these cases, I am hearing a loud popping noise from the loudspeakers. The current firmware-update, that should lower the clicking sound from the built in relay's, did not change the problem - btw. please do not mistake the plopping problem with the clicking relay's-sound, that's something completely different!"

Any user feedback pls?

Yes I can hear the clicking sound insideand I don't like this ,
and sometimes it just can't get the signal from hdmi
The relay does have a problem , sometimes u have to go to the set up menu

I don't have any plopping sound or I don't understand what r they talking about !?

I am not sure if those popping sound you mentioned is another problem despite the relay sound, to me they are the same, very annoying noise from the preamp.
while playing mp3, going to track 12, then there are 12 popping 'dak dak dak dak dak.. from the amp.
however, i do not encounter "I am hearing a loud popping noise from the loudspeakers" , not from the speakers from my experience.

My personal feeling of the implementation of HDMI is a crap.Maybe the 1080p resolution and high bitrate of HD audio require it.To the customer, it is a duplication and higher cost. For example, video processing in the Blu-ray player, in the av amp and finally in the display. Blu-ray is already 1080p/24hz so the video upscale is not necessary. I don't watch dvd anymore these days. 1080p/24z straight foward from the blu-ray player would be sufficent. Just imagine if there is no video processng in the av amp, the price of it should be in general be lower (alhough the Cary 11a is an exception). HDMI audio is even worse, relay clicling and audio dropout is not uncomoneven after years of implementation of HDMI. Japanses amp is better than the non-Japanese brand in this aspect. But the relay clickng even in the Pr-Sc5507 is unacceptable in its price range. Handshake problems still presist :- for instance, no problem for a BR player straight to the display; add an av amp in between and there is no picture althuogh the BR player, av amp and display are all hdmi compatiable. Individual manufacturer denys responsibility and put the blame on the other party. The customer learnt the incompatiablility in the hard way-only found out after paying for the expensive gears. This is my grievance and sorry if I have been over-reacted.

personally I like HDMI, it save me a lot of cable
every time i saw the back of the AV system is a nightmare
I do a projector, so 2 HDMI output is great!
upscale is good so I need 2 HDMI only to connect ouput In both A&V
I don't think they will be better , but I just don't want more cable

Handshake problems does matter!
I turn off all hdmi control, not use both output ( Projector & LCD )
manual switch, no upscale ( throught ), is still have a problem

Yes, similar situtation to my 807. Cliking sound occurrs when switching between different decoding format like "pure audio" and "Dolby PIIz", but no "poping" noise from the speakers.

However, there are some occassions, yet not always, that no signal go to the 807 when I switch between input sources, for instance from TV to DVD/CD. Is it a problem about the HDMI cable?

Yes ar, Ryan Ching, I have already updated the latest firmware. But the major differenceI can tell is the sound quality of bi-amp only, the signal issue is still the same.

One more issue.... when i switch off the TV when playing CD in pure audio mode, the sound signal will be interrupted and become"on-and-off" at about 1 sec interval, and the display screen on amp will also keep on "blinking" as well. It won't go back to normal unless i switch off the CDP and restart again. However, everything is fine if i turn off the TV before i play the CD. It seems there is a cycle signal going back to the amp when it is switch off. (all are connected by HDMI). Is it a problem of the HDMI cable?
