AV receiver used as pre-amp

Using Yamaha 1400 as pre-amp and the newly acquired NHT Power55 channel power amp.

Previous volume scale 22-24, now some discs at 19-20 and some at 22.

I found the Y1400 is hotter than before (at volume scale 19 Vs 22 before), although it is logical since 19 is louder than 22, it is in contradication to my expectation since I bypass the power amp section of Y1400 now (only use Y140 to drive the surround back speakers).

Would there be any negative effect? I am waiting for the Emotiva UMC-1(AV pre-amp) to clear all its bugs before I upgrade to it.
