Radioshack Sound Level Meter

Finally managed to get the captioned meter from a friend who has a recent trip to USA. It costs US$44.99 + 9% tax.

I tried using it to trim the speaker level of the gears which are:-
Yamaha 1400
Klipsch :- RF-15/RC-52/RS-42
Veloydne CHT-8R
and using a pair of Celestion Little One as surround back.

Previously I ran the auto-EQ by Yamaha 1400, but find that the surround effect is weak, so I fire up (adjust upward) the speaker levels of the surround and surround back channels and also the center channel in order/hoping to enhance the dialouge.

But now after using the meter to adjust a 75db for all channels and 80db for the sub, I found the speakers levels (speaker distance in brackets)are:-
L : -7db (118")
C: -10db (109")
R: -7db (115")
SR: -7db (93")
SL: -7db (84")
SBR: 0db (105")
SBL: +1db (104")
SWR: -3db

Previous speakers levels are all + db especially the surround/suround back speakers( I forgot to copy them down for comparison).

And I have just watched the Flash Point"Nam Wai" fight scence & Quantum of Solace opening scence and found that although the front soundstage volume is lower, the overall sondstage and the surround effect have improved a great deal and I am quite happy of it.

My point is:- the sound level meter is only a few hundred dollars ( you can get other brand in "Ap Liu Street") but the improvement is so great that I highly recommend it to you without hesitation(although it is seldom use{:1_253:} - initial set-up only and when changes in speaker configruation).

I had a sound level meter bought from Ap Liu Street but it cannot measure the sound level of my subwoofer!{:6_125:}
