When will you buy 4K and do you double dip?
本帖最後由 Wiz33 於 2017-8-9 00:32 編輯Do you buy all new movies in 4K or do you wait for reviews? Whatwould make you buy a 4K copy if you already have the Blu-ray? What do you look for? Video improvement? New audio track (Dolby Atmos, DTS:MA, etc)? Extra supplementary material?
I'm asking this because most of the current new 4K are upscaled from the 2K theater master and not all of them is a dramatic improvement over a standard Blu-ray except for HDR. Of my own collection. I only found a few that really "WOW" me when I compare the 4K with the Blu-ray. The few that really stands out is The Martian, The Revenant, Lucy. The rest just offers minor improvement in details and HDR. Especially those that have a artificially limited color pallet to start with like all the DC Superhero Movies with that grey tone. I really don't find them worth investing in 4K.
As to double/triple dip on old titles. I'm being really careful, I wait for multiple reviews and I would only pick up the 4K if it's a 5/5 video transfer like Pacific Rim. Surprisingly, some of the best are the older ones that were transferred from the film, restored and color corrected like the recent Fifth Element and The Professional.
Feel free to reply in Chinese, I'm just too old to learn Chinese input.
P.S. All my current collections are English. I would like some recommendation for Chinese and Japanese 4K movies with great video quality. because of what? I will buy the best version if I do love the movie, then sell the old version{:1_338:} pbtour4il 發表於 2017-8-9 00:03

Sorry, accidentally hit sent before i finished. This is basically what we all went through during the previous eras of VHS - LD, LD - DVD, DVD - BD. If the release looks good enough and you're a true fan of that certain movie, you will double/triple-dip it anyway regardless of the quality of the transfer. My only complaint so far is the pricing of the 4K new releases, I think they're very pricey. MSZ 發表於 2017-8-9 07:43

Yea, but all the those formats offer noticeable improvement over the previous format but the current selections of 4K titles are mostly upscaled from 2K masters which means those scanned from restored film are the only true 4K. and some just offers marginal improvement from the already excellent Blu-ray version. I guess we'll see when they start putting out true 4K master as more theaters transition to 4K projector. 本帖最後由 影音小編輯 於 2017-8-10 11:38 編輯
Dip 唔 Dip 真系好講個人口味取向既播... {:6_143:} 我自己前設系如果發行有誠意將畫面大執, 音效升級 (DTS-HDMA 變 DOLBY ATMOS), 花絮又專登再加碼...我就一定入硬佢... 如果三項條件變成三揀二, 4K 我最睇重都系畫質, 其次是音效, 至於花絮... 正如英文話齋,系 BONUS ,所以有就最好, 但無都唔會專登強求... {:6_136:}
目前前到最舊既翻執/ 翻出 4K UHD 片應該會系 1957 年既 <桂河橋>, 如果呢批英語殘片都執到類緊 4K 效果, 我覺得舊片出 4K 市場都值得支持, 始終太舊既片都唔系人人睇過, 當系俾新一代觀眾電影了解下當年電影是 "咁拍的" 其實都非常值得支持... 講真, 我第一次睇 <綠野仙蹤> 同 <沙漠梟雄> 都已系藍光版 (當時都系貪得意入手), 發現原來舊片都可系咁 sharp 同 Colorful, 同國際台當年播既 Copy 簡直系兩個世界...所以講到舊片 Double-Dip 我個人認為真系好講 Title 同自己口味, 有時有 D 經典如 <T2> 、<ALIEN> 、<STAR WARS>同 <INDIANA JONES> 個堆, 大家就算儲多幾個版本都唔算好過份呢 {:6_157:}

It was also true when people bought those HK action/martial arts movies on BD about a decade ago, many of those were upscales of 480p materials.

Same thing now, Guess the Chinese (especially Cantonese) market is so small that studio is just not willing to spend money to clean up old movies before putting it out on the newest format. I still holding out hope that we might see a restored/re-mastered"A Better Tomorrow" though.
