Tru-Motion (or any other similar technologies from other brands) make video "smoother" by inventing fake frames between real frames from the content, and is often advertised as 120Hz, 240Hz, 480Hz, etc.Another supplementary technology is backlight scanning.
Advantages:
- Smooth
- Increase motion resolution
Disadvantages:
- Soap opera effect for movies
- Artifacts because the TV makes up the fake frames by its own
While average consumers typically are fooled by smooth video and prefer it over choppy video, many videophiles think this is a bad thing and needs to be turned off.My Plasma P50V20H Intelligent Frame Creation created really erratic frames for some J2 anime when I tested it briefly, so I turned it off and never looked back.
