If you are not very familiar with Linux, try Vortexbox which is so far easiest to install and use.Even without linux skills, people could manage it.

To 2ch audiophiles, even AV bypass on AV amp is probably not good enough.It is like feeding 2ch music through a poor quality signal cable. And the power amp stage of AV amp may not be good enough either.
