As recruitment at Bletchley Park grew, the main Mansion building was soon outgrown. In 1939 work began on the now infamous wooden huts, which is where most of the code-breaking and great achievements of the war took place.

The exploits of Bletchley Park were only declassified in 1989 and the continued secrecy meant that, in 1945, American engineers took credit for the invention of the world's first computer. In actual fact, this was two years after Tommy Flowers’ Colossus had been built.
