Idol group Girls' Generation is making K-pop history in Japan.
The nine-member group has maintained their No. 1 spot on the Oricon Chart in Japan for the past two weeks with their recently released album, "THE BEST."
Girls' Generation has sold a total of 106,000 copies of their album as of August 5, according to Oricon.
"Girls' Generation has debuted on the Oricon Weekly Chart three times in a row, but they never debuted No. 1 on the chart for two consecutive weeks. Girls' Generation has become the first Korean artist to debut at No. 1 for two weeks in a row since January 2004 when BoA made the accomplishment," the music outlet wrote on their official website, according to Yahoo Entertainment Singapore.
The group had topped the Oricon Weekly Chart back in 2011 as well as with their albums "GIRLS' GENERATION" and "LOVE & PEACE," which was released last year.
Girls' Generation has truly proven themselves to be "THE BEST" with their recent album, which is a compilation of 18 of their previous hits, including "Gee," "The Boys," "Genie," "Mr. Taxi" as well as the Japanese version of "Mr. Mr," in addition to a new ballad number, according to the publication Yonhap News.
The girls recently wrapped up their "GIRLS' GENERATION~ LOVE&PEACE~JAPAN 3rd Tour" last month as well, further expanding their fan base in Japan.
The ninesome had expressed earlier this year that they plan to make the most out of 2014, and they seem to be accomplishing their goal.
"Since 2014 is the 'Year of the Horse,' we plan to run energetically like a horse. Starting with our new mini album, there are many plans ahead. In appreciation for the fans who have waited for our comeback for a long time, we plan to do lots of performances throughout this year," Girls' Generation member Sooyoung told Billboard.
