My friend who has been using Cubox + Linear PSU for a while. He has been playing with Win 7 CAS + JPlay before. He said the sound of Cubox does wins his Win7 in many aspect "before" upgrading the PSU of Win7 to Linear PSU.
After upgrading his Win7 PC to use a linear PSU, he found that the sound by Win7 wins the Cubox in every aspect, more musical, depth and wider sound stage.
Later, he installed Win8 and found Win8 wins Win7, finally, he is using Win8 Server with minimal setup (just a console screen no graphical interface), and he said so far, this is the best sound.
(Remarks: He has tuned his Win7 and Win8 by applying some software patch aimed for audiophile use)

Wow, the world has been kept changing!!
Besides using linear PSU, I think one reason why Win8 improves is due to its minimizing resource usage. Many old computers (using Platinum CPU before 2005) in my workplace work very well under Win8!!

For win8, the improvement is not on the PSU, it's just so happen that my friend already using Linear PSU the time he first try Win8 Server.
As I wrote in last post, I have emphasized the difference between win8 server and other Windows versions that it is "console mode" only, means no graphical user interface and all the server services are not installed, it's just a bare operating system that allows administrator to add whatever server services they want.

It will be nice of ching to share more accessible ideas with us.
I just use Process Lasso to set priority (+Fidelizer+some small patches tweak for windows separation done by others long time ago) in PC even though I play Mac most of the time because of ease.
Are there any easy steps on the PC that we can improve sound further?
