The following post was taken from the Sony 4k media streamer FMP-x1 forum.
"Hello gang. I already have the Sony 4K media player. And I have some really bad news. You are NOT gonna like this.
Short version: I hooked the media player up (correctly) and received the error that the TV could not connect to the media player, along with a variety of error codes. After several hours of this, I returned the first unit and got a fresh one. Same problem exactly.
Enter Sony support. I talked to various people 'up the chain' until I got to a person who actually understood what the issue was. I hope you're sitting down:
Evidently, at the 11th hour, Sony decided to change the HDCP employed in these players. This new version of HDCP is not - I repeat NOT - compatible with virtually *any* 4K television that Sony has sold to date. If you purchased a Sony 4K TV of any size at any time before, I don't know, the last 14 days or so, chances are you're affected.
The solution, per Sony: The entire HDMI board in the TV has to be changed before the media player will work. Of course, Sony will set this up for you. When the part is available. And when the technicians have time. Because, you know, they have to now change the HDMI boards on almost *every* 4K TV they've ever made.
Am I the only person who's more than a little irritated that I just spent close to $7K on a beautiful new TV that effectively now cannot play the *only* 4K content in existence? Truly, truly unbelievable.
Questions? Ask away. But my advice: don't order the media player yet. Get your set's board changed first. Then, you won't have to endure the frustration I've endured today. Grrr......" 除非師兄們有大無畏精神…否則切勿多想…
見個型號叫咩1已經知係索尼索您用的…一貫傳統…1號機唔係試驗機係試驗機後第一部量產市售機…即係bdp-s1/s1e
您可以話佢必定用料一流…但s1/s1e…
Here is accurate info on the problem and the issue of the server working with the 1000ES and whether 1000ES owners will get $200 off on the server.
Sony will do home installs to 4K panel owners of the mods needed to make the server work with Sony 4K panels.
The $200 off is only applicable to 4K panel owners and is through the Sony panel division. So there is no point in registering for the discount if you own a 1000ES. The attempted registration will be ignored by the panel division.
Around Cedia time the server will be made to work with the 1000ES projectors. Whether a $200 off will apply to 1000ES owners is unknown. Whether the projector will need a modification and how, if so, that will be done is not known. I expect a modification will be necessary and I suspect there will be $200 off on the server. Whether there will be a cost for any modification is unknown.
That's the info I have. It is not speculation and I have verified it through appropriate channels which I can not disclose. Dealers and Sony personnel can not post this info but I have been given permission to disclose the info.
The present downside. Not much until the Sony content service goes to operational mode. What we give up as 1000ES owners is we can't watch the present preloaded content which based on reviewers who have seen it is of variable quality. That's it. That's what I know. I have no more info. So enjoy your summer without buying a server.
~ mark haflich, avs Owners of the 55X900A and 65X900A and the FMP-X1UD can schedule activation of a the player by clicking
https://www.4kactivation.com/ "The biggest issue is copy protection on the movies and it was a last minute addition. Each movie will be tagged and locked to that Player, so if someone try's to copy it they will know.
The other side is the player will also be locked to the tv Panel, which is going to frustrate people if they have 2 4k tv's(can't move the player from one tv to another). That is the main reason for the upgrade and it is being enforced by Sony Pictures.
This is why there is such a hold up on Blu-ray 4k Copy protection, HDMI 2.0, HEVC(h.265)"
post by space2001, avs In better news, Sony confirmed it would offer full support to all Sony 4K TV buyers who buy first-gen 4K TVs, should there be any later changes to the 4K TV standard. The issue centres around a potential new 4K video standard, which wouldn't be compatible with existing 4K TVs' HDMI 1.4 inputs.
Gyles said: "Sony 4K sets are future-proofed. Customers are our number one priority and Sony will provide all the necessary solutions to the 4K TV owner to access future 4K content services once they start in respective TV markets."
The guy in charge of HE seems focused on these 4K TV's. i'm sure it would build confidence if he made the same statement for the projectors.
