The World Soundtrack Academy, who organizes the annual World Soundtrack Awards in Belgium, announced last week that Japanese composer
Shigeru Umebayashi (House of Flying Daggers, In the Mood for Love, Fearless) is the latest member of the Academy – and its 250th.
The Academy was launched by the Ghent International Film Festival in 2001, and it’s aimed at “organizing and overseeing the educational,
cultural and professional aspects of the art of film music, including the preservation of the history of the soundtrack and its worldwide promotion.
The latter, through the presentation of awards as well as through the development of several other promotional initiatives.”
