My Sony is 2.5 yrs old which also have ARC.

咁我想問下點樣先知自己部電視有無arc？ I think most 3D TV should support ARC.

{:1_257:} Using optical source, there is delay contributed by the sound process even using direct output.You will see the Lip outsync with voice.If you are using ARC over HDMI, there is not problem to use any DSP, lip is always match with vocal.
I don't think the Optical path is the practical way. I think the sound quality will be same as far as both using same sample frequency.The only different is the lip out sync if using the Optical path. 回復 35# mrpost76

lip sync 相信都唔係主要的問題, 主要的問題是 hdmi 和 optical 音質的分別
相信 ARC 是經 HDMI 以電流方式傳傳送 signal (沒有其他可能性)
optical 是用光波
一個長久的老問題是 coax (電流) 定 optical (光波) 好聲 d.據我理解應該是電流 (coax) 是好聲 D。主要原因是多了兩層轉換。電流首先要轉換成光波
, 傳送後由光波轉回電流。
當然, 理論並不等於事實。但如果這理論正確, ARC 用 optical 傳送 audio 就一般來說絕對冇好處了

It is not right or wrong to use HDMI or tosklink for sound signal.It is a matter of preference only.
Toslink is a less preferred method for audio transmission due to extra conversion steps as I mentioned earlier.
What I am trying to say is there is probably no value added for using toslink if ARC thru HDMI is working OK.

Audio Return Channel聲音回傳功能
例如, 一部電視有4個hdmi, 但基本上都係接收影像同聲音.
但如果有 arc 的那一個 hdmi, 就唔單止可接收, 還可以輸出, 咁如果您用hdmi線駁好晒, 咁您就可以用amp同您果d心愛既喇叭出聲, 去欣賞電視節目, 唔使用電視內置果d喇叭仔.{:1_258:}
