    There is noise in the LAN link, good shielding helps to minimize the noise absorb from the atmosphere, also helps to avoid self-induce noise.

LAN is using IEEE802 standard which has error correction.The digital signal is only used the media transmitting digital signal 0/1.If we are using the CAT5 or 6 even 7 to carry analog signal.The hypothesis might be established.
