On Thursday, March 4, 2010, HDMI Licensing, LLC, on behalf of the HDMI Founders, released the HDMI Specification Version 1.4a, featuring key enhancements for 3D applications including the addition of mandatory 3D formats for broadcast content as well as the addition of the 3D format referred to as Top-and-Bottom.

etc
試想你走去影音店話：唔該要一條 High Speed Hdmi。
店方比條 v1.3b 你，你都唔話得佢錯。
小弟買 hdmi 時，打死都要佢 confirm 條線係 v1.4a spec 的。

HDMI Version Numbers
Version numbers such as HDMI 1.3 and HDMI 1.4a are primarily of interest to manufacturers, and not very relevant to the consumer. Instead, it is recommended that you focus on the specific features and capabilities of the product you’re buying, and not worry about which HDMI version is supported. Keep in mind that every HDMI version is backward-compatible with all previous versions, so you can be assured that any new equipment you buy will always deliver the highest level of quality that your existing equipment supports.

Choosing the Right HDMI Cable
When it comes to selecting a cable, the HDMI version number is never relevant. There is no such thing as a “Version 1.4 cable” or “HDMI 1.3 cable” - these terms are solely the creation of manufacturers’ marketing efforts. Cables are instead rated by their performance capabilities. There are five HDMI cable types to choose from:

Standard HDMI Cable - Designed to handle most home applications, the Standard HDMI Cable can reliably transmit 1080i or 720p video plus surround audio.

師兄，
多謝指出有一份 buying guide 存在於 hdmi.org 的 web page.
小弟 overlook 左。 My apologies!
但這亦正是小弟係另一帖所提出 hdmi.org 令顧客混亂之處。

hdmi.prg 一方面出有 verion # 的 specification 比製做商去 follow。
另一方面又叫顧客唔好用 spec 的 version 去分辦 hdmi 的 product。
但唔同的 version 又確實有不同的功能。 hdmi.org 根本是在自傷矛盾。
莫非 hdmi.org 會話標誌著 v1.3b or v1.4a 的 hdmi cables 是不合規格的。
非官方認可的 hdmi cables/products。or hdmi cables is not a hdmi product in definition.

再者 guidelines 只是一個導引，而並非一個 policy。顧客或業界無須要一定要依從。
hdmi.org 只是單方面認為 顧客對 version no 無趣興，
所以建議顧客唔好用 version no, 另出一份 guidelines 去 facilitating customers.
Unfortunately, this is not the case indeed.

反觀一份 specification or policy，業界就非跟不可。
否則，其製成品就不能標上 hdmi 認可的標記。

小弟，並不反對師兄們跟隨 hdmi.org 的 buying guides. 這是師兄們的選擇自由。
小弟寧可跟隨 hdmi.org 所定下的 manifacturing specfication version 去分辨不同功能的 hdmi product.
因小弟個人覺得用 manufacturing specification version 去分會比較清楚，容易明白。
亦見到許多 hdmi cables 製造商在其成品上印上 version 1.3b or version 1.4 的識別字。
